Dr. Fred Hermanson recommends dental inlays and onlays when your teeth are too damaged for fillings but do not require dental crowns. Inlays and onlays are sometimes referred to as “partial crowns” and are considered to be more conservative treatment options as they work to preserve as much of your original tooth structure as possible.

What Are Dental Inlays and Onlays?
A dental inlay is used when the damage to the tooth does not reach the cusps, or pointed ends, of the tooth. A dental onlay is used when the damage to the tooth extends to one or more of the cusps. During your initial appointment, our dentist will carefully examine your tooth to determine whether an inlay or onlay would be more appropriate for restoring the damage.

Inlays and onlays are custom made using porcelain, composite resin material or gold. Once placed onto your teeth, they are virtually undetectable, discreetly restoring the health, function and appearance of your teeth. Your inlay or onlay will be very carefully designed to ensure that it fits your tooth perfectly to fully restore your smile and oral health.
